My name is Angus Rivers and this website showcases some of the wonderful places I have been to, through, across and around on a bicycle. My aim is to encourage you to have an adventure yourself and to give you tips should you decide to follow in my tyre tracks.

Over time the site is evolving to include more general observations about a life on two wheels. I now have job and two young children, so my horizons have necessarily been altered, but camping wild in Scotland with a baby feels no less of an adventure than getting lost in Bolivia. Any time on a bike is good.

Tours

I first went on a bicycle tour at the age of thirteen, cycling in the Outer Hebrides with my parents. It rained. A lot. After quite a break, I had the opportunity to get back in the saddle. Here is everything that followed.

The descent off Mount Keen through Glen Esk Scotland C2C - I settled on the 'classic' route described in Phil McKane's 'Scotland Mountain Biking: The Wild Trails'. I'd take the sleeper to Scotland, get an early start and have four days ...
An Arran hillside Arran to Jura - Western Scotland is not known for its sunshine, but we had a fortnight of blue skies and 25 degrees Celsius. We rigged up sunshades at our camps and swam in ...
Provence lavendar Provence - Provence really does have it all. The Alps, the Cotes d'Azur, the River Rhone and the Camargue, Mont Ventoux, Roman ruins, timeless villages, Avignon, Marsaille, the Verdon Gorge, van Goch, ...
North Uist camp The Western Isles - The scenery is constantly changing but frequently spectacular and, bar a few exceptions it is pretty flat! Enjoy...
Cirque de Mafate La Reunion - What a place! A French Departement in the Indian Ocean between Madagascar and Mauritius. It's just 63 km long and 45 km wide but is 3070 m high and manages ...
Grand Col Ferret Tour du Mont Blanc - Is this the best ride in Europe? It combines alpine views with mile upon mile of singletrack; oh and some pretty tough climbs...
Megavissey The West Country - Highlights included most of the coastal sections - Boscastle and Megavissey in particular are wonderful - and an incredible cliff-top camp near Tintagel...
Carretera Austral South America - My longest journey so far. Click through for posts on Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile and Tierra del Fuego...
Normandy fortifications Northern France - A week-long bicycle trip that you can plan in half an hour (I know, because we did)...
Dalmatian Coast Croatia - The coastal resorts are undeniably beautiful, the civil war appearing a distant memory. Travel as little as 5km inland though and the reality remains starkly clear...
Montana dirt road The Great Divide - If you have between seven and fourteen weeks to spare and love mountain bike touring, this is the tour to take...
Lake Garda Lake Garda - For a complete novice, it was slightly daunting going on a holiday purely by bike. However Angus promised to tow all the stuff in his BOB trailer so I agreed...
El Misti Southern Peru - We arrived in Arequipa to a purity and, at 2325 m, a paucity of air that was a direct and most welcome contrast to London...
